Melt the butter with the olive oil in a large heavy pot over medium heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until slightly wilted, about 5 minutes.
Add the rice and spices and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes. Add the broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, covered, until the rice is tender and the broth has been absorbed, about 15 to 20 minutes.
Stir the turkey, raisins, and nuts into the rice. Serve hot or at room temperature.
